Chapter 13: Something There

In the breakfast table with Tea at one end and Yami at the other, with Mrs Mutou between them. Tea is served breakfast, and as she begins to eat, Tea looks at Yami, gobbling up his food with no table manners whatsoever.

Yugi laughs, but Mrs Mutou shoots him an admonishing look. She turns away and tries to ignore it, but he comes to the rescue. Yugi nudges the spoon with his nose, and Yami reaches out for it. Tea looks at him in wonder as he tries to eat with the spoon, but he has little success.

Finally, she puts down her spoon and lifts her bowl as if in a toast. He looks at the compromise and does the same. They both begin to sip their breakfast out of their bowls. Outside the courtyard where Tea and Yami are feeding the birds. She began to sing.

"There's something sweet.
And almost kind.
But he was mean,
and he was coarse and unrefined.

But now he's dear
and so unsure,
I wonder why I didn't see it there before.

Tea is trying to attract some birds to him, who shoves a handful of seed at them. Finally, she takes a handful and gently spreads it out, creating a trail.  One lands in Yami's hands, and he looks up thrilled. He started to sing.

She glanced this way.
I thought I saw
and when we touched
she didn't shudder at my paw.

No it can't be
I'll just ignore
but then she's never looked at me that way before.

Tea has ducked around a tree, leaving Yami with the birds.

New and a bit alarming.
Who'd have ever thought that this could be?
True, that he's no Prince Charming
But there's something in him that I simply didn't see.

She begins to look doubtful again, but turns her head around the tree and laughs. His covered with birds.

Tea throws a snowball at Yami, who had looked at her proudly after the birds flew away. He begins to gather a large pile of snow. We cut to the objects, looking out of a window at the two. In the background, Tea throws another snowball at Yami, who drops his huge pile of snow on his head.

He chases her around a tree, but she ducks around the other side and sneaks up on him from behind. Duke sang.

Well who'd have thought?

Mrs Mutou singed.

Well bless my soul.

Tristan started to sing.

And who'd have known?

Mrs Mutou continued singing.

Well who indeed?

Duke started to sing again.

And who'd have guessed they'd come together on their own?

Mrs Mutou sang again.

It's so peculiar.

All the objects were singing.

We'll wait and see.
A few days more
there may be something there that wasn't there before.

Back in the den where Tea sits in front of a roaring fire and reads to Yami. The objects including Yugi watch from the doorway. Tristan was singing.

Yes, perhaps there's something there that wasn't there before.

"What?" Yugi questioned his mom.

Next Mrs Mutou sang.

There may be something there that wasn't there before."

"What's there, mama?" he repeated the question.

"I'll tell you when you're older." She told her son.
