Chapter 3: A Fairy Prince

That night, Mrs. Hyuga was sitting in her favorite chair with Hinata sitting on the bridge of her nose and her dog, Akamaru, by the fireplace.

“Now here’s a story about the noble dog who saved the king from the wicked wizard.” Mrs. Hyuga said. Akamaru barked gleefully, as Mrs. Hyuga began. “Once upon a time..”

But Hinata interrupted her. “Oh, mother please… Are there any stories about – about little people?”

“Well, as a matter of fact there are, Hinata. Look.” Mrs. Hyuga said.

Hinata dropped down into Mrs. Hyuga’s hand and Mrs. Hyuga set her down on a page with an illustration of a dazzling being.

“Whoa!” Hinata exclaimed in surprise. “They are little, just like me.” She then noticed something rather curious on the being's back and asked. “But – but what are those?”

“They’re wings, Hinata.” Mrs. Hyuga explained. “These are fairies. And fairies have wings so they can fly.”

Hinata looked at another illustration of a fairy prince and princess, before she asked.  “Mother, have you ever seen a fairy?”

“Well, I thought I did once.” Mrs. Hyuga said.

“Really?” Hinata said.

“Yes, and here the fairy prince and princess are having wedding.” Mrs. Hyuga said, before gesturing to the illustration of the two fairies.

“And they live happily ever after.” Asked Hinata.

“Usually, dear.” Mrs. Hyuga said.

“Hmm.” Hinata said. “I-I suppose it works best if two people are about the same size.”

“Yes, of course.” Mrs. Hyuga said.

“Yes.” Hinata said, before she frowned sadly and said. “Well…” She walked to a corner of the page, as she said. “Well, that’s not fair. I – I – I must be the only little person in the whole world.” She sat down, as she added sadly. “I wish I were big.”

“Oh no, Hinata,” Mrs. Hyuga said, “no, don’t wish to be anything but what you are. Bedtime, my dear. It’s been a long day.” Hinata climbed into Mrs. Hyuga’s hand. Mrs. Hyuga carried her over to her bed, as she said. “You must go to sleep now.” After setting the book down on the table, she tucked Hinata into her walnut shell and said. “Sleep tight.”

“Mother?” Hinata said.

“Hmm-hmm?” Mrs. Hyuga hmmed.

“Would you please leave the book open?” Hinata told her.

“Of course, dear.” Mrs. Hyuga said, placing Hinata’s walnut shell on a book on the table.

“I want to look at the pictures while I go to sleep.” Hinata said.

Mrs. Hyuga opened the book to the page with the fairies and set it down where Hinata could see it, as she said. “There.”

“Goodnight, mother.” Hinata said.

“Goodnight, Hinata.” Mrs. Hyuga said. As she turned to leave, she said to Akamaru. “You take good care of her, Akamaru.”

When Mrs. Hyuga had left, Hinata climbed out of bed and walked over to the picture of the magical creature she had come to love, as she smiled to herself and curtsied to an invisible dance partner.

“Hmm.” Hinata hmmed.

Hinata then began to walk around and sing thoughtfully.

“I know there’s someone
Somewhere, someone
Who’s sure to find me
Soon”

She then began to dance in front of the window.

“After the rain goes
There are rainbows”

She went back over to the illustration of the fairy prince and princess.

“I’ll find my rainbow
Soon”

As she sang, Akamaru, enjoying her song, hopped up on a chest and settled down.

“Soon it won’t be just pretend
Soon a happy ending
Love, can you hear me
If you’re near me
Sing your song
Sure and strong
And soon”

Hinata kissed the picture of the angel prince, before she said to herself. “I wonder if there really are such things as fairies. Hmm.”

Meanwhile, somewhere far away from Hinata’s home, the forest was alive as the heat of summer began to give way to the goldening of autumn. A group of multicolored lights flew with the speed of a shooting star over the fields, causing the colors below to give way to the red, orange, yellow, and brown of autumn. Causing all this was an entire caravan of small magical creatures: fairies.

Leading the group were two magnificent fairies. The first fairy was a man with a spiky white hair usually tied back into a pony tail, with two shoulder-length bangs that framed both sides of his face, he also had red lines that ran down from his eyes, yellow wings, wearing a yellow under tunic, double tunic gold, gold brooch, yellow and gold sleeves, burgundy pants and brown shoes. This was King Jiraiya. The second fairy with a woman with straight, blonde hair tied up in a  loose ponytails, brown eyes, and yellow wings and wore a gold blouse with white sleeve, off white poufy sleeves, yellow corset, yellow skirt and yellow shoes. This was Queen Tsunade.

She just so happened to turn, only to see that someone was missing from the celebration. Realizing who was missing, she sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose.

“Oh my dear.” she said, before she turned to Jiraiya and said. “Don’t look now, dear husband, but our son is missing again.”

“So he is.” Jiraiya said, before he said. “I think he feels a bit silly riding that white butterfly we gave him.”

“Why should he feel silly?” asked Tsunade.

“It-it-it doesn’t quite make the right impression on the young ladies?” Jiraiya said.

“Well, what about the impression on the court?” said Tsunade. “Jiraiya, my love, it is the autumn today and we have begun the golding of the leaves. He should be here.”

“Tsunade…” Jiraiya said.

“He’ll hurt himself.” Tsunade said. As they flew off, Dorothy added. “I just hope he’s not out buzzing the vales on that wretched bee. He is the crown prince, for heaven’s sake.”

Jiraiya laughed and said. “Tsunade, dear, have you forgotten what it’s like to be seventeen?”

Meanwhile, a fast-moving shape flew past and right in the direction of Hinata’s home. This one was another fairy. He had messy brown hair, yellow wings, and black eyes. He wore a red tunic, light red vest, red and light red shoulder sleeves, yellow sleeves, gold pants, and red shoes. His name was Kiba, the son of Queen Tsunade and King Jiraiya, and he was out enjoying the night on a yellow bee known as Lee.

He was flying past the window when he heard an angelic voice singing within.

“Whoa – oh.” Kiba said, before he steered his dragon back to the window. The bee landed and Kiba floated off and then saw the breathtaking girl before him. “Hello.” he said, as he watched, completely mesmerized by her. “What a beautiful voice.” he said. “I wonder who she is.” He turned to his bee and said. “Stay here boy, I’ll check this out.”

With that, he snuck in through the window, never taking his eyes off the girl.

As Hinata continued dancing and humming, she failed to notice Kiba sneaking in. He flew behind the book and then hid behind a page, as Hinata stopped dancing.

“Oh, you have to go now?” Hinata said to her imaginary dancing partner. “Ah, I see. You are a wonderful dancer.” She then asked. “Will I ever see you again?”

As she began humming softly again, Kiba decided to make his presence known, as he cut part of the page and asked.  “May I cut in?”

Startled, Hinata turned and cried. “Oh!” in surprise, before she quickly ran over to a teapot and hid inside.

“Don’t, no, wait-wait, come back! Oh, I – I apologise, I didn’t mean to frighten you.” Kiba said. He sighed and sheathed his sword, before he said. “Oh. There, see? No more sword.” He then floated over and peeked into the teapot, as he asked. “Now, will you come out?”

He then saw Hinata gazing up at him in awe. He smiled at her and Hinata smiled back, before she climbed out through the teapot's spout. Once she had gotten out, she stepped back onto the book and looked Kiba up and down.

Kiba looked at her in confusion, as he asked her. “Ah. What… Wait a minute. What are you staring at?” Hinata looked away for a moment and Kiba said. “Well, say something, will you?”

Hinata pointed at one of the illustrations in the book, as she said. “You’re… Oh! You’re one of them!”

“Uh, I beg your pardon?” Kiba said, looking puzzled.

“I thought I was the only one my size in the whole world.” Hinata said, happily.

Her voice woke up Akamaru and when he saw Kiba, he began to growl.

Kiba readied his sword, but Hinata said. “Akamaru, no, no… No no no, he’s a friend. Look.” She turned to Kiba and said. “Hello, my name is Hinata, how do you do, sir? Uh – thank you, thank you for coming to visit.”

Kiba caught on and sheathed his sword, as he said. “Oh oh oh – no trouble at all, the pleasure is mine.”

Content with this, Akamaru went back to sleep. Kiba and Hinata smiled at each other.

“Oooh, sorry about that.” Hinata said.

“Hinata, oh it’s a lovely name.” Kiba said.

“Thank you.” Hinata said.

“I’m Kiba.” he told her.

“Kiba.” Hinata said, before she began to giggle. “Well, that’s a funny name.” But then she quickly covered up. “Oh, I – I mean it’s perfect.” She then said. “Uh, tell me about the fairy court. Is there a prince?”

“Yes…?” Kiba said.

“He must terribly handsome.” Hinata said.

“Oh, he is.” Kiba said.

“Strong and brave.” Hinata went on.

“None like him.” Kiba told her.

The two moved closer to each other, as Hinata said. “I would love to meet the prince.”

“Oh, I’ll tell him.” Kiba said.

“Oh-oh thank you.” Hinata said.

“Oh… You’re welcome.” Kiba said.

It’s short, I know the next one might be long chapter.
One night, her mother tells her a story about fairies. After being put to bed, Hinata imagines that someday she will be able to find someone to love ("Soon"). As she is humming to herself, Prince Kiba of the Fairies flies by her windowsill and is enchanted by her.
